Woman accepts plea deal in animal cruelty case
THOMPSON FALLS - A 73-year-old Thompson Falls woman charged with 29 counts of animal cruelty has pleaded guilty in a deal with prosecutors.Aleta Rogers was sentenced Wednesday to a year in jail and a fine of $1,000 on each of the counts, with all jail time and fines suspended if she pays restitution, donates to the Thompson River Animal Care Shelter and pays surcharges.The total, including the shelter donation, is $6,176.Shelter officials helped Sanders County authorities rescue dozens of dogs from four dilapidated mobile homes and camp trailers owned by Rogers last month. Authorities found 54 dogs living in 2 to 3 inches of their own feces and urine. .

Proposed Mobile Home Ban Falls Flat
"As of today, we do not have a mobile home ordinance and it does not look like we're going to pursue that," said Kathy Goldsmith, the town recorder for Lost Creek. City council voted last month to look into the ordinance banning mobile homes. City officials said some mobile home owners wouldn't adhere to flood regulations or FEMA regulations. One landowners said city officials need to do a better job of working with the Harrison County Planning Commission. As for the proposed ordinance, Sharon Glasscoc said "I feel it is prejudicial. It strips the landowner of his rights." .
